Two more people were arrested Saturday in connection with a fatal shooting at a Jacksonville park on July 17 that was reportedly linked to a drug deal, according to a news release from the Jacksonville Police Department on Saturday.
Kyland Rogers, 20, and David Brooks Jr., 19, both of North Little Rock, turned themselves in to the department and were subsequently arrested on capital murder charges in connection with a shooting in Dupree Park that killed De’Andre Gooden, of Jacksonville.
Saturday’s arrests follow those of Jamie Williams, 20, of Jacksonville, and Mersade Palmer, 20, of North Little Rock, who were also arrested and charged with capital murder on July 18, according to arrest reports.
On July 17, officcers responded to a call about a shooting at the park at around 6:32 p.m. and found a black Chrysler that had crashed at West Main Street and T.P. White Drive, according to the reports.
There, officers found Gooden behind the wheel with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was later taken to a hospital where he died, the reports state.
Witnesses told police that before the shooting, they saw a white car at the park with two women, later identified as Palmer and Williams, in the front seat as well as two men, later identified as Rogers and Brooks, in the back seat. Rogers and Brooks exited the vehicle and began shooting at Gooden, according to the reports.
After reviewing surveillance video footage from the scene of the incident on Friday, Jacksonville police identified the white vehicle, retrieved its license plate number, and traced the car to a residence in nearby Lexa, where officers located Palmer and Williams, the reports state.
After police arrested Palmer and Williams, Palmer told officers from the department that they planned to pick up two men in North Little Rock then meet someone at Dupree Park to purchase marijuana. Following the shooting, the women drove back to North Little Rock to drop the two men off, according to the reports.
This is an ongoing investigation.
