NJ Man Faces $250K Fine for Bank Robbery That Yielded $27K

As the saying goes, crime doesn’t pay.

Perhaps a man from Monmouth County should have studied that proverb before he robbed a bank, because he now potentially faces a fine of nearly ten times the amount of money he stole.

Earlier this week, 51-year-old Jeffrey L. Kniffin of Wall Township pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of armed bank robbery.

Armed robbery in Wall Township

Federal authorities say on October 23rd, 2024, Kniffin entered a bank in Wall Township armed with a loaded handgun, he approached a bank teller, and demanded cash.

After demanding the money, Kniffin removed the gun from his pocket and showed it to the employee.

During his interaction with the teller, Kniffin said multiple times, “Don’t do anything stupid.”

Kniffin received about $27,000 in cash from the worker and then fled.

Quick Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Cash

He was apprehended and arrested by law enforcement several minutes later and cops found a loaded gun and more than $25,000 in cash in the area.

The count of armed bank robbery carries a prison sentence of up to 25 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 24th.

U.S. Attorney Alina Habba thanked the FBI, the Wall Township Police Department, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office for their work in this case.
