Police investigation after suspicious fire destroys Hay River home


A suspicious house fire in the town of Hay River has resulted in the sudden loss of a home. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as a result of the fire. The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Police are investigating and asking area residents for assistance in gathering more information.

The house fire took place on Camsell Crescent yesterday afternoon.

“On July 24th, an officer on patrol noted the smell of smoke and subsequently located a nearby residence that appeared to be on fire. The Hay River Fire Department was called to the scene however the residence was a total loss,” said Hay River RCMP in an announcement today.

Police said that the residence was not occupied at the time and no injuries were reported.

Officials said that the matter is considered suspicious. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted to investigate the cause.

Hay River RCMP are asking residents in the area of Camsell Crescent, Woodland Drive near Camsell Crescent and the alleyway between Camsell Crescent and Gaetz Drive to check security camera footage from the hours of 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Contact police if anything suspicious is observed.
