WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) – A Marine stationed in North Carolina at Camp Lejeune is facing charges in connection with a deadly crash that took place on Thursday.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the crash that happened on westbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 287.
According to state police, a Honda driven by Diego Andres Martinez Duque was traveling at high speed and made an unsafe lane change before colliding with a Mercedes-Benz.
The impact caused Duque to lose control and hit a guardrail.
Duque also hit an unoccupied Ford pickup truck on the median, reentered the roadway and collided with a Ford Focus before coming to a stop.
The passenger in the Honda with Duque, identified by authorities as Jesus Alexander Colin, of California, was pronounced dead at Duke Hospital in Durham a short time later.
Duque is facing multiple charges in the crash, including misdemeanor death, careless and reckless driving, and unsafe lane change.
