LEXINGTON, N.C. — A man is in custody following a deadly shooting on Federal Street, according to Lexington police. Officers responded to a 911 call about shots fired and discovered 26-year-old Jyisaiah Cuthrell with multiple gunshot wounds on the front porch of a home.
“Officers immediately, based on their training experience, began rendering first aid before emergency medical services arrived. Officers rendered many different forms of aid to help this victim,” said Lexington Police Captain Luke Davis. Despite their efforts, Cuthrell was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
Shortly after the incident, police apprehended 21-year-old Jarvis Lewis Carroll, who is now facing a murder charge and is being held in the Davidson County jail without bond.
Captain Davis commended witnesses for their cooperation, stating, “We struggle with getting folks to talk to us sometimes and tell us when they’ve witnessed a crime. So, we really challenge folks, you know, if you see something, speak up.”
Cuthrell was reportedly shot multiple times while sitting on his front porch, where he was found by his girlfriend, Unquae King. “I loved him genuinely, I loved everything about him,” King said, expressing her grief over the loss of her loved one and best friend.
Friends and family described Cuthrell as a positive presence in their lives. “He’s always happy, willing to put a smile on anybody’s face. His daughter was his pride and joy. He loved her, he loved the ground she walked on,” King said.
This incident marks only the second homicide in Lexington this year. Those close to Cuthrell are left mourning his loss. “It’s never going to go away, it’s going to be hard and… Just pray for his family and his loved ones because he was that guy,” King said.
