Illegal immigrants arrested at Loxley Elementary School

LOXLEY, Ala. (WALA) – A chaotic scene at the new Loxley Elementary was caught on camera, as federal agents swarmed the construction site.

The FBI in Mobile said 11 undocumented workers were arrested at this taxpayer-funded project.

One witness, Irv Ballonoff, told FOX10 News he quickly pulled out his phone, taking video of law enforcement surrounding the school, riding four wheelers and even using a helicopter.

“One of them fell through the roof on the drywall chasing them because he didn’t know to step on the beams so he came crashing down,” Ballonoff said.

According to Ballonoff, brick layers and roofers were some of those arrested.

Another witness who wants to remain anonymous told me he’s glad this happened.

“I am not really surprised,” they said. “Because there was some things going on that shouldn’t have been going on.”

According to a sign on the site, Adams Stewart Architects, LLC is the project architect. Sharpe Inc. is listed as the contractor. So I have them a call.

The architect refused to comment and I haven’t heard back from the contractor.

We asked Superintendent Eddie Tyler for an on-camera interview, but our request was declined.

This is the second time in a month, a publicly funded school construction site in Baldwin County has been raided by federal agents. This project in Loxley is said to be costing taxpayers 38 million dollars.

Last month, the Gulf of America Homeland Security Taskforce arrested 36 illegal immigrants at the new Gulf Shores High School construction site.

We’re told 20 suspects had a criminal history.

I also reached out to April Bradley, who’s the elected school board member for this area, but she refused to comment.

The school system did put out a statement, saying it’s committed to transparency and accountability.

We are too, so we’ll keep pushing for answers.

FBI Mobile also said after federal agents left the construction site, they arrested 13 other suspected illegal immigrants at a location between Spanish Fort and Loxley. That makes 24 arrests in Baldwin County on July 23.
