Former DeKalb County detention officer arrested, charged with aggravated assault


ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A man who used to watch over inmates in DeKalb County found himself behind bars instead, according to the sheriff’s office.

Martin Douglas, 50, faces charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and violation of oath of office. He was arrested on Monday and released that same day on a $20,000 bond.

The sheriff’s office said Douglas’ charges and subsequent firing were related to an incident on July 4 involving a DeKalb County Jail inmate. Deputies did not specify what happened.

Douglas had been with the sheriff’s office since March 2024.
