FREDERICKSBURG, Two men were arrested in connection to an armed robbery outside a Fredericksburg bank on Thursday, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
Officers responded around 5:04 p.m. for the report of an armed robbery at the Navy Federal Credit Union located at 3445 Fall Hill Ave., according to police.
“The victim was attempting to make a purchase from two individuals when the suspects drove him to the ATM at the Navy Federal Credit Union to withdraw cash,” according to the incident report. “After the victim withdrew and exchanged the cash, one of the suspects brandished a firearm, threatening the victim. The suspects then quickly fled the scene in their vehicle with the victim’s money.”
A short time later, Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the suspects’ vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, according to the report. The two suspects were detained until the arrival of FPD detectives, who took them into custody. They were both held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
FPD charged 18-year-old Rasheed Johnson of Fredericksburg with robbery, using a firearm or displaying a firearm; firearm use in the commission of felony; and conspiracy- robbery by using firearm or displaying a firearm, according to the police report.
Police also arrested 18-year-old Nyrique Lewis of Fredericksburg, charging him with robbery: using a firearm or displaying a firearm; firearm, use in commission of felony, and conspiracy – robbery by using firearm or displaying a firearm, according to the police report.
Johnson was scheduled to be arraigned in Fredericksburg General District Court on Tuesday morning. His preliminary hearing has not been scheduled, according to court documents.
On Tuesday morning, Lewis was arraigned in Fredericksburg General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 4, according to court documents.
Both men are charged with using a firearm in the commission of a robbery, which is a Class 3 felony, under the Code of Virginia. If convicted, they each would face a possible sentence of five to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.
The conspiracy use of a firearm charge they both face is a Class 5 felony, which is punishable by a prison sentence of one to 10 years, or a jail sentence of up to 12 months, and a possible fine of up to $2,500, according to Virginia law.
Johnson also faces a potential prison sentence on the charge of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, which is a Class 6 felony, according to the Code of Virginia. If convicted, he could be sentenced up to 10 years in prison, or receive a jail sentence of up to 12 months, and a possible fine of up to $2,500.
