Fort Smith RCMP investigate break-in, armed robbery


Fort Smith RCMP are investigating two separate incidents involving a break-in and an Armed robbery that occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

RCMP said officers responded to a report at around 4:30am on July 20 that three masked men had broken into a home and threatened the occupant with machetes. The resident was able to escape.

After roughly two hours, police received a second report of a person who had been “assaulted and robbed at gunpoint.” RCMP said the suspect fled with a quantity of cash and other goods.

In response, a team of officers including members from Hay River alongside various Yellowknife-based units was deployed to Fort Smith.

“Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in Fort Smith over the coming days,” RCMP stated.

“These investigations remain ongoing and no arrests have been made.”
