NOPD officer injured in French Quarter hit-and-run; suspect arrested


NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a New Orleans Police Department officer injured late Friday night in the French Quarter.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight at the intersection of Bourbon and Conti streets, according to NOPD. The officer, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital by New Orleans EMS.

A source tells FOX 8 the officer is in stable condition.

Authorities say two male suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, which may have been located in a parking garage in the 300 block of Canal Street. Officers responded to that location and began searching for the suspects.

Police confirmed that an adult male suspect was taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run involving the officer. The suspect was located shortly after midnight inside the parking garage on Canal Street.

Police are urging the public to avoid the area near Bourbon and Conti streets, as well as the parking garage on Canal Street, while the investigation remains active.
