Man accused of biting officer after stealing beer, chicken from Walmart in Charlotte


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A man was accused of biting a cop and threatening to shoot officers after stealing merchandise from a Walmart in Charlotte on Saturday.

Records showed 53-year-old Victor Roberts was arrested on Saturday, July 12, and faces multiple charges related to the attack/theft. A list of the charges he’s facing can be seen at the bottom of this article.

According to jail records, Roberts’ bond was set at $300,000 and is scheduled to be back in court later this month.

What happened

The theft reportedly happened around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Walmart along Wilkinson Boulevard.

According to an affidavit, Roberts stole $228 worth of beer, chicken, detergent, and other merchandise. When officers arrived at the store, they found Roberts sitting in his car in the parking lot.

Police said when ordering Roberts to get out of his car, he refused and began reaching around, telling them that he had a gun. At some point, he reportedly told the officers he would shoot them.

Reports stated that one officer grabbed Roberts and pulled him out of the car as he “continually reached for [an officer’s] firearm from his holster.”

An affidavit also said that Roberts bit an officer in the left hand and arm, leaving scratches and marks.

After police managed to take Roberts into custody, they reportedly found a glass pipe intended for ingesting cocaine in his car.

Charges issued

Roberts was issued a handful of charges related to the encounter with police and theft. Those can be seen listed below.

  • Causing physical injury to a law enforcement officer

  • Misdemeanor larceny
