Man suspected in Encino double murder had unrelated case dropped – NBC Los Angeles

Court records show the man arrested on suspicion of murdering “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca inside the couple’s home in Encino was jailed last year on suspicion of threat, weapons, and battery charges.

In December, a judge dismissed the cases against 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian after a mental health evaluation was completed, and the court records indicated he was placed in a conservatorship, which puts another adult in charge of major decisions in a person’s life if they’ve been diagnosed with a severe mental disorder.

The nature of the evaluation’s findings are not public, and the court records indicated Boodarian was released from jail.

The LAPD said Boodarian was arrested in the murder case Tuesday along Vanowen St., a few miles from the home where Kaye and Deluca were shot to death.

The LA County District Attorney’s Office did not respond to questions about how the court’s mental health findings in Boodarian’s 2024 cases might affect its ability to prosecute the new murder case, but said evidence will be evaluated ahead of Boodarian’s initial appearance in court, set for Thursday.

Homicide detectives confirmed Tuesday they believe Kaye and Deluca were shot to death July 10, around the time a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report she had seen a man scale the wall that surrounds the home.

The neighbor provided a description of the prowler, according to details of the radio call.

Officers from the LAPD’s West Valley Division were dispatched around 4 p.m., but reported they could not access the property because the front gate was closed.

An LAPD helicopter flew over the house and at 4:17 p.m. an officer on board reported, “there’s no sign of a forced break-in, we’re going to clear,” and left the area.

Officers returned to the home Monday afternoon after friends demanded police conduct a welfare check.

This time police saw a trail of blood in front of the house, entered the home by smashing a glass door, and discovered the couples’ bodies inside.
