
A 26-year-old man, who the Police said was a suspect in the robbery of a Chinese businessman in Linden, was shot dead by the Police in Amelia’s Ward, Linden on Monday night.
The Police identified the dead man as Shamar Prince, of Wall Street, Amelia’s Ward.
In a statement, this afternoon, the Police said Prince a group of ranks visited the apartment occupied by the man and his girlfriend late on Monday night.
The Police claimed that as the ranks were talking to the girlfriend at the front door, the suspect was seen running through the backdoor. The Police statement said the man opened fire on the Police ranks as he was running away from the house.
According to the Police, the ranks took cover and returned fire, and the 26-year-old man was hit and fell to the ground.
The man was taken to the Linden Hospital where he died while receiving treatment, according to the Police. The Police statement said he was shot five times to his body.
Investigators said the ranks recovered One .38 revolver containing three .38 rounds and three .38 spent shells, along with a box containing twenty-five (25) .38 rounds of ammunition at the scene next Prince’s body.
They also recovered a black shoulder bag that he had in his possession which contained a number of items including, a knife, a cellphone, his ID Card and five grams of suspected cocaine.
The Police Force said the ranks involved int he shooting were at the time investigating a report of Robbery Under Arms committed on a Chinese businessman earlier on Monday.
An investigation is ongoing.
