Alaska troopers make arrests in Soldotna robbery case involving stolen RV, truck, and boat

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska State Troopers are investigating a stolen goods case in Soldotna involving thousands of dollars of items.

Around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Arnold Anderton reported his truck, boat and trailer were stolen from his property around mile 13 of Funny River Road, according to court documents. Anderton posted about the theft on Facebook.

Witnesses on social media reported seeing Dona Bird and Darryl Correll towing the vehicles on July 4 near mile 13 of Funny River Road. Following these tips, Anderton was able to find the boat and trailer at a residence on James Street off Funny River Road. Anderton told Gregory had returned to that residence, which is where he found them.

Bird and Correll claimed they recovered the truck from another man and were repairing it, according to court documents. They provided conflicting details about the truck’s location and the man’s contact, leading investigating troopers to determine it was fake.

Information provided by Bird and Correll led Gregory to find the truck concealed in a brush in a gravel pit off Joplin Street. It had “severe” damage, according to court documents, including a large hole consistent with a shotgun blast, and could not be driven in that condition.

An estimate stated the truck needed $27,083.54 worth of repairs, according to court documents. More stolen items, including a Ruger 10/22 and a document addressed to Daniel Alsdorf, were found nearby.

After being contacted, Alsdorf confirmed ownership of the James Street property and said no one had permission to be there. Gregory met with Alsdorf at the property on Friday after Bird and Correll had left and the RV they were observed in was gone, which Alsdorf reported to be stolen. Alsdorf reported the condition of the property had significantly changed since his last visit roughly one year and four months ago.

Three vehicles that did not belong to Alsdorf were found on the property, one of which was confirmed stolen out of Anchorage. That vehicle had ignition damage and showed signs of tampering, court documents said.

In addition, two cabins next door to each other also owned by Alsdorf had been burglarized and contained property owned by Bird and Correll.

Evidence confirmed Bird and Correll illegally entered both properties, according to court documents. On Saturday, Alsdorf boarded up the doors to his property. That evening, the boards were found to have been removed.

Later, troopers found Bird and Correll inside the RV, now on Lake Drive.

When questioned, Bird and Correll gave contradictory statements. Bird said her aunt rented the property and RV, while Correll said Alsdorf gave them the property in exchange for cleaning it up. Both stories were determined to be false and the two were arrested.

Bird and Correll were transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility, where they are being held without bail. The investigation is ongoing.
