JACKSON, Tenn. — We have an update on a fatal shooting that took place over the weekend.
Jackson police are still investigating a homicide that happened in the 1300 block of Campbell Street Friday evening.
One resident that lives near the scene of the crime tells us that stray bullets grazed cars, broke windows and flattened tires.
LaVerne Hardin says she was traveling home from work at the time of the incident and is fortunate to still have her life.
“…That particular night I was at work and everybody was just calling me thinking it was me because a lot of people didn’t know I had moved over there, but the ones that did know were just blowing my phone up,” said Hardin. “You know I’m trying to get in my apartment but they couldn’t let us down there because it was a crime scene. I said ‘A crime scene?’ Because nobody lives down there but older people. I’m still angry at the situation. The point is that people that have problems with people need to keep it in the street. Don’t bring it in to our neighborhood. They pick any neighborhood where they see their opponent and just start shooting not thinking who else are we going to kill. They don’t care about who else they’re going to kill. Are we going to kill someone’s innocent child? Mother? Father? They didn’t care at that time.”
The Jackson Police Department confirmed the identity of the shooting victim as 18-year-old Ja’Carreon Jermaine Williams.
Hardin says that she just wishes for a safer community.
“I just want to be safe. I want me and my community to be safe. I’m living for my grandbaby. My son got killed and left a two-year-old,” said Hardin.
