Two dead in separate drownings on Russian River – NBC Bay Area


The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two unrelated drowning incidents on the Russian River Sunday.

Deputies were called to Monte Rio Beach along Bohemian Highway at 2:53 p.m. for reports of two juveniles struggling in the water.

The sheriff’s office says bystanders rescued one of the young swimmers, but could not find the second. About 20 minutes later, deputies found the second juvenile and performed CPR but the young person died at the scene.

At 3:49 p.m., a second incident occurred at Martinelli Beach.

The sheriff’s office says someone found an adult male unresponsive in the water. CPR was administered, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not been released.
