  • Chan Kim leads the ISCO Championship by five strokes after two rounds.
  • Kim shot a record-tying 61 in the first round and followed up with a 68 in the second round.
  • Kim is seeking his first PGA Tour victory.

Can anyone catch Chan Kim? That’s the question the rest of the ISCO Championship field will attempt to answer this weekend.

Kim tied the tournament’s first-round scoring record Thursday, firing a 61. He followed up with a 2-under 68 on Friday. While he was seven shots worse in Round 2 than Round 1, Kim extended his lead from four shots to five entering today’s third round at Hurstbourne Country Club.

His closest pursuers are a trio of players at 6 under: Thomas Rosenmueller, Kris Ventura and Vince Whaley. Eight more players are at 5 under.

Kim, a 35-year-old who played at Arizona State, never has won on the PGA Tour. His best career finish on the circuit is a tie for fifth, which he netted earlier this year at the Valero Texas Open. While he’s still seeking his maiden PGA Tour victory, Kim owns two wins on the Korn Ferry Tour and eight more on the Japan Golf Tour.

His five-shot advantage was only one away from matching the event’s 36-hole record; Jhonattan Vegas led by six strokes at the halfway point in 2016. Kim hopes his story ends differently, however: Vegas didn’t go on to win that year, tying for fourth — and three shots out of a playoff eventually won by Aaron Baddeley. (Back then, the tournament was known as the Barbasol Championship and contested at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail‘s Grand National course in Opelika, Alabama.)

If Kim still holds the lead after today’s round and goes on to win Sunday, he’ll make tournament history: No player ever has led the event wire to wire.

The 67 other golfers who made the cut will try to ensure that doesn’t come to pass.

Just before 5 p.m., Chan Kim continues to hold a five-shot lead, sitting at 11 under for the tournament after posting pars on his first two holes today.

There now are four players tied for second at 6 under: Thomas Rosenmueller and Vince Whaley, who entered the weekend on that number, have been joined by Luke List and Paul Peterson.

Amateur Jackson Koivun briefly reached 6 under, but bogeyed the par-4 14th. He’s 4-under on his round today through 14 holes and 5 under for the tournament.

After an afternoon lightning delay pushed back tee times more than an hour and a half, leader Chan Kim will begin his round at 4:26 p.m. At 11 under, Kim is five shots ahead of the trio at 6 under: Thomas Rosenmueller, Kris Ventura and Vince Whaley.

Ivan Cantero Gutierrez has the best round of the day among those already in the clubhouse, posting a 3-under-par 67. But the lowest round on the course belongs to the lone non-pro to make the cut: Jackson Koivun, who plays at Auburn and is the top-ranked amateur in the world, is 4 under after 10 holes.

It’s still more than two hours until the ISCO Championship’s final pairing, Chan Kim and Vince Whaley, step to the first tee box.

And so far, Hurstbourne Country Club is posing a formidable challenge.

As of 12:30 p.m., 42 players are on the course; only six players are under par for their rounds, with nine more at even on the day.

Ivan Cantero Gutierrez has the best round going, 4 under through 13 holes. He’s 3 under for the tournament and tied for 18th. Even so, that leaves him eight strokes off Kim’s lead.

Here are a few alternative titles, focusing on different aspects of the original:

More General:

  • SpaceX Set for Falcon 9 Launch from Cape Canaveral
  • Falcon 9 Rocket Ready for Launch from Cape Canaveral
  • SpaceX Launch Scheduled from Cape Canaveral

Highlighting the Satellite:

  • SpaceX Launching Satellite Aboard Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral
  • Falcon 9 to Carry Unidentified Satellite into Orbit
  • Mystery Satellite to Launch on SpaceX Falcon 9

Adding a sense of intrigue (due to the unspecified nature):

  • SpaceX Plans Secret Satellite Launch from Cape Canaveral
  • Falcon 9 to Launch Unidentified Payload from Cape Canaveral
  • SpaceX Launching Mystery Satellite on Falcon 9

Retaining specific information:

  • SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch from Cape Canaveral Planned – Spaceflight Now
  • Cape Canaveral Hosts Upcoming SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch – Spaceflight Now

The best option depends on the specific angle you want to take in your writing. If you want to emphasize the fact that it’s a mystery satellite, choose one of the options that highlights that. If you want to focus on the launch itself, choose one of the more general options.
