Deputies arrested a Steuben County man Thursday after a person walked into a retail store and asked for help, prompting a criminal investigation.
Thomas R. Whitehead, 43, of Marsh Road in Caton, was taken into custody on July 10. According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Whitehead allegedly held another person against their will, stole property by force, and choked the victim during the incident.
Whitehead faces multiple charges including robbery in the third degree, a class D felony; unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, a class E felony; criminal obstruction of breathing; and petit larceny.
Authorities arraigned Whitehead in Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded him to the Steuben County Jail.
