Defensemen Matt Dumba and Vladislav Kolyachonok are reportedly at the center of a trade between the Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins, according to Sean Shapiro of DLLS Sports. PuckPedia supports this, indicating Dumba is headed to Pittsburgh while Kolyachonok goes to Dallas, though the trade is not yet official.
The trade, if completed as is, would resolve the Dallas Stars’ cap issues for the 2025-26 season. Kolyachonok’s league minimum salary of $775K is $2.975MM less than Dumba’s $3.75MM cap hit. This assumes Pittsburgh is taking on the full amount of Dumba’s contract without any salary retention by Dallas. Currently, the Stars are $1.79MM over the salary cap, and this move would bring them back into compliance.
