CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The United States Marshals Service confirmed a fugitive wanted for a Cleveland murder was arrested late Monday morning on the eastern edge of Ohio by the West Virginia border.
U.S. Marshals members led the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force in the arrest of 42-year-old Devin Roberts, said USMS.
USMS said Roberts was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for murder, and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department for probation violations.
The murder happened on June 16 in the area of Parkgate Avenue and East 105th Street, according to USMS.
Officers on scene of the shooting learned one victim was shot, USMS said, and the suspect may be in a nearby home.
USMS identified the victim as 34-year-old De’Ante Kidd, who was found dead on the porch of Parkgate Avenue home.
Cleveland SWAT was sent to a second location where they believed the suspect to be, but Roberts was not found.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force began searching for Roberts once a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to USMS.
NOVFTF’s search for Roberts led members to believe he fled the Cleveland area after the shooting, said USMS.
USMS said the U.S. Marshals in Wheeling, W. Va. learned on July 7 that Roberts may be hiding in their area.
The task force then found Roberts in Brilliant, Ohio, according to USMS.
Roberts was arrested without incident during a traffic stop in the area of 1400 3rd Street, USMS stated.
USMS said Roberts will be in custody until he can be extradited back to Cleveland for the charges against him.
“This suspect has brought violence and fear to the Cleveland community, we are thankful for the dedicated work of the Detectives in the Cleveland homicide unit as well as the quick actions by members of our task force and in West Virginia,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated. “The suspect is behind bars and the communities are safer.”
