A robbery suspect was shot and killed by Stafford police Sunday after charging at officers with a knife and a brick during a foot chase, authorities said.
According to the Stafford Police Department, officers were first dispatched around 3:15 p.m. on July 6 to the 300 block of Avenue E after a report of a man armed with a large knife. Within minutes, a second 911 caller reported seeing the same man walking along Avenue E and crossing FM 1092.
A short time later, a third 911 call came from the 7-Eleven at 2919 North Main Street, reporting an aggravated robbery. The victim described a man wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and a white shirt, matching the earlier suspect description.
Officers located the man near Avenue E and Shady Brook Drive. When they tried to approach, he ran, leading officers on a foot chase. During the pursuit, police say the suspect, armed with a large kitchen knife and a brick, charged at them. A taser was deployed but had no effect. A second officer fired, hitting the suspect.
Officers immediately began life-saving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as 35-year-old Miftau Oladipo.
The Stafford Police Department says the incident remains under investigation with assistance from the Texas Rangers, the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, and the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office.
