Woman in custody after fatally shooting boyfriend at Coram home, police say

A 44-year-old woman allegedly shot and killed her boyfriend after a physical confrontation at their home in Coram in the early hours of Friday, Suffolk police said.

Ashley Guimont called 911 after allegedly shooting her boyfriend Alex Carter, 47, police said. The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. on Townehouse Drive in Coram, police said.

Carter was taken to the Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson and was pronounced dead there, according to the police.

Guimont was arrested in the couple’s Coram home Friday morning and charged with murder in the second degree. She is being  held overnight at the fourth precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip, police said in a news release.

No other information was immediately available Friday night.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the homicide squad at 631-852-6392.
