MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder and unlawful possession of a firearm convictions of Bryan Craig Fox, 54, of Oneonta. Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the decision, which affirms the verdicts handed down by the Blount County Circuit Court on May 21, 2024.
Fox was convicted for the November 2021 murder of his wife, Sharon Teal Askew. At the time, Fox was involved in an extramarital relationship and was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior conviction. On the night of the murder, Fox exchanged heated text messages with his wife before going to their home and shooting her in the head. Sharon died from her injuries.
The jury dismissed Fox’s claim of self-defense and found him guilty of both charges. Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey’s office successfully prosecuted the case, resulting in Fox’s life imprisonment sentence. Fox appealed the convictions, seeking a reversal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division, led by Assistant Attorney General John J. Davis, argued for the convictions to be upheld. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals issued its decision on Friday, June 20, 2025, affirming the convictions.
Attorney General Marshall praised Davis for his work on the case and expressed gratitude to District Attorney Casey and her team for their assistance in defending the convictions.
