A 41-year-old man died after losing control of his car and crashing on the New Bedford – Fairhaven Bridge Wednesday morning, the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said.
First responders went to the bridge for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Arriving police officers found a 2015 Chevy Silverado occupied by a 26-year-old man, who was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The car had a “moderate amount of damage to the front end and came to a rest in the right lane of travel facing eastbound‚” the district attorney’s office said.
The second vehicle involved was a 2001 Mazda Miata, which had “catastrophic damage” to the front end. The car was found facing west on the eastbound side of the highway, after it lost control while crossing the bridge and hit the Chevy, according to the statement.
The driver of the Mazda was identified as Gregory Crook McGuire, 41, of New Bedford. Crook McGuire was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement.
The crash remains under investigation, but the district attorney’s office said charges are “not anticipated at this time.”
