A controversial plant stand has left the Springettsbury Township strip mall parking lot it occupied since March with plans to return to York County next spring, according to the business owner. Second Chance Plants sold discounted plants at the Haines Acres Shopping Center despite not being permitted by the township’s zoning laws. Springettsbury officials said they filed charges against Second Chance Plants in district court. However, the York Dispatch could not locate any court records on Tuesday.
The stand was set up in March by the online plant retailer BloomBox. As planned, the stand’s last day was Sunday. Even though Zablocki signed a lease with the property owner to use a corner of the mall’s parking lot, the township’s zoning law requires temporary outdoor merchants to have a physical storefront where they are selling their wares.
