CENTRAL TEXAS (KWTX) – Bell and McLennan Counties hold “No Kings” rallies protesting the Trump administration. Over 1,000 “No Kings” protests were held in cities across the U.S on Saturday. Protesters rallied against the administration’s actions on immigration, tariffs, foreign policy and the federal workforce firings. The people of the United States are standing up to say that we own this country, not the president,” McLennan County Democratic Party Chair Mark Hays said. Protester and Republican of 60-years, Joe McKinney split with his party and rallied against President Trump. “I cannot identify with the cruelty of the current administration,” McKinney said. Counter protesters appeared in support of Trump at the Bell County demonstration. “I don’t think Trump’s trying to become a king,” Counter protestor Mike Callaway said. “I think he’s trying to help the United States. And if the Democrats would work with him, it would be unbelievable what America could do.” His sentiment was shared by the other counter protesters at the Bell County courthouse. “If he tries to become a king then stop him,” Callaway said. “But he’s not going to.” Protesters hope to shift the political landscape in Central Texas as Trump serves the remainder of his final term. “Even though he has three and a half years left in office people are gonna keep fighting,” Protester Andrew Joseph said. “They’re not ready to just sit down and give up and let hate take over.”
