911 | Broadway gunfire, Cal Anderson BB gun robbery, Amazon driver armed hold-up — UPDATE: Montlake ‘swatting’

    • UPDATE 9:45 PM: A fake “swatting” 911 call prompted a major Seattle Police and Seattle Fire response to a Montlake home Monday night. Police units and Seattle Fire medic crews rushed to the area following the just before 9:30 PM reporting a shooting at the residence. Arriving officers were able to quickly ascertain that there had been no shooting. Police are now investigating the hoax call. State laws have been strengthened around false reporting in Washington. Charges can range from misdemeanor up to felony prosecution.
    • Broadway gunfire: Police investigated a large fight and gunfire early Sunday morning near Broadway and John. SPD says a fight involving gunfire and around nine people was reported in the 100 block of Broadway just after midnight. Police tracked down a vehicle that had fled with suspects entering a garage at 6th and Yesler and made a traffic stop:
      Investigation revealed the following: Vehicle occupant (male) and his girlfriend went to an apartment of the male’s ex-girlfriend and her family and friends. Male suspect struck ex-girlfriend in the face. He then fled in vehicle before officers contacted him. During his flight, an unknown person emerged from an unknown location and fired 1-2 rifle rounds at fleeing suspect.
      There were no immediate arrests for the shooting but one suspect was arrested for investigation of domestic violence assault.
    • Cal Anderson BB gun robbery: Police rushed to a reported shooting in Cal Anderson Park Sunday night to find the aftermath of an armed robbery with a” realistic looking BB gun.” The incident began unfolding around 11 PM with the reported shooting involving a group of juveniles on scooters seen “casing potential victims” for robbery. Witness accounts described the group of six or seven teens attacking the male victim with “hands and feet” before pulling out the BB gun and opening fire. The group then took the man’s phone and keys and fled the park on scooters. SPD reports “park security” recorded video of the incident but the suspects could not be located. There were no reported arrests.
    • Amazon driver robbed at gunpoint: An Amazon delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in an incident reported earlier this month at 17th and Fir. According to the SPD report on the Thursday, July 17th afternoon incident, police were called to the area where the driver said two suspects entered his Amazon delivery vehicle while he was inside, pointed a handgun and demanded money. “The suspects took 50.00 dollars from the victim and fled westbound. Officers quickly arrived in the area and conducted an area check which led to negative results,” SPD reports. Amazon said it could provide video of the robbery from inside the vehicle. There were no significant injuries and no arrests.
    • Stolen license plate arrest: Cops executed a “high-risk stop” and made two arrests after a vehicle reported with a stolen license plate was tracked down to a Capitol Hill gas station late Saturday night —
      At 2355 hours, officers on patrol in the Pike/Pine nightlife area located a vehicle with a stolen license plate on it. While attempting to stop the vehicle, which was believed to be stolen, it eluded officers WB into Downtown Seattle running red lights. No pursuit was initiated. Later, officers located the vehicle pulling into a gas station at Pike/Broadway and initiated a high-risk stop once it was in a safe position with limited avenues of escape. The driver was the same individual, and the two passengers were the respondent and petitioner in an No Contact Order (NCO). Respondent was arrested for violation of NCO. Driver was arrested and booked to KCJ.

      Broadway restaurant Parepas shared the ordering screen theft caught on video

    • Ordering screen theft: Broadway’s Paparepas restaurant has posted a recent incident showing a thief who made off with one of the Venezuelan joint’s ordering screens as a warning to other area merchants to be on the lookout.
    • Drugstore boxcutter assault: Police responded to a Capitol Hill drugstore after a “known shoplifter” reportedly chased store security with a box cutter Friday afternoon and cut one person on the hand:
      At 1208 hours, officers responded to a call for service at drug store located in C1 for a possible robbery. Officers quickly arrived in the area and began their investigation. It was determined that the suspect, who is a known shoplifter entered the store and got into an argument with security. The suspect brandished a box cutter and chased security around the store, cutting the victim in the hand. The victim was able to deploy pepper spray that stopped the attack, and the suspect fled the store. K-9 arrived, and a track was conducted, however, due to said delay, the track led to negative results.
      There were no immediate arrests.
    • E Olive Way bicyclist crash: Police and Seattle Fire were called to E Olive Way near E Howell late Sunday after an intoxicated bicyclist reportedly smashed into a parked car. SFD reported the man in his 30s suffered a non-life threatening head injury in the crash into the parked Prius near the street’s eastbound right lane. There were no additional injuries reported.
    • Luring incident reported: Family has provided details of a suspected luring incident last Monday at a cafe on Broadway. CHS has been provided security imagery and police report information from the incident and we have been monitoring for any similar reports in the area. According to family, the two juveniles were at the Broadway cafe around 5 PM when a man entered the business and started talking to them, telling them he knew their family:
      The girls said they were unsure if he was talking to them and didn’t respond to him. As soon as their drinks were put up on the counter, they grabbed them and left the store. The man followed them out of the store. And they said that when they realized that, they started to run and he ran after them.
      Family says the cafe’s owners noticed the disturbance and one of them rushed to help, yelling at the man who then fled the area. “The shop owners are absolute heroes,” a friend of the family tells CHS.
