90-year-old man killed in Columbia County car crash


COLUMBIA COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – Oregon State Police responded to a deadly crash in Columbia County on Wednesday afternoon.

The preliminary investigation indicated that 90-year-old Gary Ronald Thomas of St. Helens was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 in a Chevrolet Cruze when he crossed into the westbound lane for an unknown reason.

The Chevrolet struck a westbound Saturn SL1 and a Toyota Camry.

Thomas was transported by Life Flight with serious injuries to a hospital. He later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

The operator of the Saturn was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. 

The operator of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle with minor injuries. 

The highway was closed for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.
