Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker has released the name of the victim in the shooting along Old Manning Road.
Cameron Pearson, 20, of Sumter, was pronounced dead on the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, Baker said.
Just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting along Old Manning Road. The shooting occurred on Bluegrass Court, Baker said.
Deputies with Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and found Pearson deceased. The shooting occurred after an altercation between acquaintances, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for next week at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate.
Deputies are searching for suspects involved. Anyone with information that can assist investigators is asked to call 911 or submit tips at www.p3tips.com. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward.
