KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – A teenager was killed after a crash in part of the Midlands on Tuesday.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at around 5 p.m. in the area of Ridgeway Road and Richardson Boulevard in Kershaw County, just east of Elgin.
SCHP said a 2004 Ford pickup was heading west on Ridgeway Road when it ran off the road to the left, struck a phone box and overturned before also hitting a tree.
The driver of the truck died at a hospital, authorities said.
Kershaw County Coroner David West later identified the driver as 16-year-old Caiden McGuff, of Camden. The coroner added that McGuff was a student at Camden High School and played sports there.
A passenger was also taken to a hospital with injuries.
No further details were immediately available.
