14-year-old whose mother was killed in NYC mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan gives powerful eulogy

NEW YORK — Wesley LePatner, a senior executive at Blackstone, was laid to rest on Thursday. She was one of four killed after a gunman opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan office building earlier this week.

Her funeral services were held at Central Synagogue on the Upper East Side.

The Yale graduate was a senior managing director at Blackstone.

LePatner’s family is now shattered by grief.

Her 14-year-old daughter was among those to speak at the emotional funeral and gave a powerful eulogy.

“Hi, my mom was like my rock, and every time after school, someone said something mean or if something happened, I would talk to her, and I couldn’t talk to anyone else,” her daughter said.

The simple act of just talking about LePatner provided some sense of comfort on Thursday during the funeral service for the 43-year-old Blackstone executive slain by an indiscriminate gunman.

“It’s just unimaginable that this actually happened. I keep thinking it’s like a prank or a lucid dream and she’ll jump out and say ha ha, it was all a joke,” her daughter said.

“There’s a gaping Mount Everest-sized hole in my life right now,” LePatner’s husband said.

The teen’s words are absolutely crushing.

“Every time I hear the doorbell ring, I think it’s her and I get excited,” the daughter said.

Mourners remember the woman behind the big corporate job.

“Our freshman outdoor orientation trip, she pulled out a hairdryer out of her bag and I was like, ‘What are you going to do with that in the woods?'” a Yale classmate said.

Outside of the Upper East Side synagogue, LePatner’s husband was spotted holding their young son.

“She lived for her children. She was also the most amazing daughter,” Father Lawrence Mittman said.

“I just can’t and I just miss her so much,” her daughter said.

LePatner’s Rabbi said her name in Hebrew means ‘Splendor.”

Funeral services were also held on Thursday for NYPD officer Didarul Islam, who was also killed in the deadly mass shooting.
